4 Signs That Your Garbage Disposal May Need to Be Replaced

Garbage disposals are an incredibly useful accessory in the kitchen. But when they’re not working correctly, they can be more than a nuisance. If your garbage disposal has been acting odd lately, it may mean it’s time to have it replaced.

Here are four signs that your garbage disposal may be failing:

1. Persistent Smell

One of the tell-tale signs that a garbage disposal is on its way out is if it consistently has an odor coming from it. When this happens, your garbage disposal is most likely not grinding up all of the food being put down it, resulting in a bad smell coming from old food stuck in it.

2. Abnormal Noises

From humming to a sharp sound, any abnormal noises coming from your garbage disposal are usually a bad sign. This usually means that something has either gotten stuck in it or it is beginning to fail.

3. Consistent Clogs

Garbage disposals are made to wash down the food you put down them. If it seems that your garbage disposal keeps clogging and you cannot find the cause, this may be a sign that your disposal is breaking.

4. Leaking

Sometimes the garbage disposal may be leaking in the under part of your sink where it’s kept. Leaks can be caused by multiple factors, but they are never a good sign. This could be caused by the garbage disposal connection loosening or pipes not working properly.
